What do you want to do when you retire?

I’m going to guess if you are a Business Owner you probably aren’t sure.

People who grow businesses frequently do not necessarily have an end goal in mind for their own career. They will have a number of goals for the business, but the career is a different thing.

Frequently, when we speak to people about this, the answer is unclear.

The reason I mentioned this and I feel like I bang this drum all the time is that there is a huge opportunity here.

On the one hand, there are CEOs, CFO’s and Business Owners who are looking to retire but don’t want to stop working necessarily. They are financially well off and have choice about what they do next.

On the other hand, there are small to mid-size Enterprises, still worth between £10 million and £100 million with almost no independent oversight.

It’s amazing the quality of people out there who you could have on your Board of Directors. The experience they have is invaluable. Yet hardly any small companies take advantage of this.

Not only is it a great opportunity on a day-to-day basis but a full and proper board of directors increases your valuation and chances of exiting now.

I know some great people and some great executive search professionals. Before you think about the exit, think about optimising your business and let’s have a chat.
